Holdrege, NE, December 17, 2019 – Dr. William Sandy of Family Medical Specialties will be retiring after 39 years of service to his patients and communities throughout southwest and south central Nebraska as well as northern Kansas. Patients, co-workers, family and friends are encouraged to attend an open house retirement celebration located in the Plaza Building (outside the Family Medical Specialties entrance and lobby) at 516 W 14^th Street, Holdrege, NE 68949 on Thursday, January 2^nd, 2020, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with the program to start at 4:45 p.m.

It all began when Dr. William Sandy was approached by a fellow resident, Dr. Thomas Smith with an opportunity to practice at the Holdrege Medical Clinic at 414 East Avenue (the old Brewster Hospital Building). In the spring of 1980, both Dr. William Sandy and Dr. Thomas Smith took over the practice. Their hard work was noticed and greatly appreciated as they worked call ever other night and weekend for their patients in the Holdrege community and surrounding areas as well as travel to clinics in Alma, NE and Phillipsburg, KS. Their Internal Medicine training was a valuable addition as well as their allergy and endoscopy services.

In 2008, the Holdrege Medical Clinic evolved into Family Medical Specialties and moved to its current location at 516 W. 14^th Avenue in Holdrege, NE. It currently houses 9 providers and will be bringing in an additional internal medicine physician in the summer of 2020. The clinic continues to expand its services and welcomes working with numerous medical specialty doctors who travel from Omaha, Lincoln and Colorado to augment our medical services.

Since the arrival of three new physicians last year, Dr. Jacob Peterson, MD, Dr. Kathryn Thelen, DO, and Dr. Krista Stoecker, MD, and with the new arrival of Dr. Tyler Haussler, MD, to provide Internal Medicine coverage at the clinic, Dr. Sandy felt it is a good time to devote himself to his family, grandchildren and other interests. He stated, “It has been a true honor to have joined and serve this community and my patients. I am grateful to have worked with an amazing team and to have invested a great amount of time doing what I enjoy. I have been able to help cultivate a successful practice and help expand medical services in our community. As I look back, it is inspiring to see what we have all accomplished over the years, and I look forward to watching the clinic and hospital continue to grow and offer additional services. The success of our practice could not have happened without our dedicated patients, our compassionate staff, and the support of our community partners including Phelps Memorial Health Center and ruralMED Management Resources. I appreciate and will continue to cherish the friendships and relationships that I have built with my colleagues and patients throughout the last 39 years.”

Dr. William Sandy completed his undergraduate degrees in chemistry and biology at Drake University where he was named to the Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Beta Beta honor societies. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Iowa Internal Medicine program in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Sandy is married to Pam Sandy and have two married children and seven grandchildren. Dr. and Mrs. Sandy are looking forward to spending more time with their family at their welcoming home at the lake.
